What is the RACGP Casper test?

The RACGP Casper test is officially called the National Entry Assessment. It's the online situational judgement test you sit when you apply for RACGP general practice training. The RACGP calls it the National Entry Assessment, and Acuity Insights, the company that delivers it, calls it the Casper Test. Casper vs the RACGP National Entry Assessment

If you've been searching for "Casper prep Australia", it's the same test. The RACGP calls it the National Entry Assessment, and Acuity Insights, the company that delivers it, calls it the Casper Test. Acuity Insights, a third-party provider, delivers the assessment online as its Casper Test, and you book and pay through your Acuity Insights account.

It uses the standard Casper format: typed and video answers to everyday scenarios, scored by trained human raters. So any good Casper practice applies, as long as it covers both the typed and the video sections.

The 9 competencies assessed

Each answer shows some of the nine competencies below. Knowing what they are, and what a strong (Q4) answer looks like for each, is the base of any prep plan.

How quartile scoring works (Q1–Q4)

Trained raters score your answers, and different raters score different scenarios. Your overall result comes back as a quartile: Q1 (bottom 25%), Q2, Q3 or Q4 (top 25%). Acuity sends your Casper test results to the programs you've chosen about 2 to 3 weeks after your test. Your quartile score is available about 4 to 5 weeks after the test.

Test fee and sitting dates

The RACGP Casper test costs A$190. Acuity Insights, a third-party provider, delivers the assessment online as its Casper Test, and you book and pay through your Acuity Insights account. You can sit it once per calendar year, and the RACGP's page explains which intake each sitting counts for.

Test-day requirements and rules

Acuity's testing platform has specific technical and content rules, and breaking them can void your test with no refund. Acuity also asks for a system check shortly before your sitting. So run through this checklist a day or two earlier, while there's time to fix anything:

• Hardware: laptop or desktop only, smartphones and tablets are unsupported. Working webcam and microphone required
• Supported browser: latest version of Chrome or Firefox, Safari, Edge, and mobile browsers are not supported
• Single screen only: external monitors must be disconnected before the system check
• Stable wired internet: reliable high-speed connection; ethernet strongly preferred over Wi-Fi
• System check: complete Acuity's system requirements check at takecasper.com in the window Acuity gives you before your sitting
• Permitted items: blank paper, pen or pencil, dictionary, food and drink, no pre-prepared notes
• Reflection time: each scenario offers an optional short reflection before you record or type, so use it to plan your answer
• Spelling and grammar are disregarded in the typed section, graders accept incomplete sentences and point form, so focus on substance
• Speech-to-text is prohibited in the typed section unless pre-approved as an accommodation; you must type manually
• Optional breaks are built into the test schedule between scenarios, use them, but remember the overall test cannot be paused

International Casper resources, what transfers and what does not

If you have been looking at Casper preparation materials designed for Canadian medical school admissions or other international programs, some elements will transfer to the Australian GP context and others will not.

• Transfers well: General strategy (leading with empathy, acknowledging complexity, avoiding formulaic responses), time management techniques, stress management during timed assessments
• Does NOT transfer: Scenarios based on North American healthcare systems, references to US/Canadian ethical frameworks, practice questions involving non-GP clinical contexts (emergency medicine, surgery, etc.)
• Partially transfers: Communication frameworks and empathy training techniques, the underlying skills are universal, but you need to practise applying them to Australian GP-specific scenarios

1. Week 1–2: Read the RACGP official materials thoroughly. Understand the 9 competencies and what each one means in practice
