What is the Casper test (RACGP National Entry Assessment)?
The RACGP National Entry Assessment is the online situational judgement test eligible doctors sit when they apply to GP training through the RACGP. Here's who can sit it, what it costs, how it works and where the 2027 dates stand.

What is the National Entry Assessment?
The RACGP calls it the National Entry Assessment, and Acuity Insights, the company that delivers it, calls it the Casper Test. It looks at how you reflect on and respond to interpersonal and professional dilemmas, and it doesn't test clinical knowledge.

Who can sit it?

When you book, you'll need your Australian or New Zealand medical registration number.

How to prepare
Set up your Acuity Insights account early, because that's where you book and pay. Need exam accommodations? Acuity reviews accommodation requests case by case. Send the Accommodations Request Form (Parts 1 and 2) and your supporting documents at least 4 weeks before your Casper test.

Assessment format

Section 1: video responses (4 scenarios)
You see a scenario, then record a video answer to each of its 2 questions, with 1 minute per answer. Caspermate practice mirrors this but records audio only, and no video is recorded or stored, so you can focus on what you say.

Section 2: typed responses (7 scenarios)
Each scenario shows its 2 questions on one page, and you get 3 minutes 30 seconds to type both answers.

Results
Acuity sends your Casper test results to the programs you've chosen about 2 to 3 weeks after your test. Your quartile score is available about 4 to 5 weeks after the test. The RACGP explains how it uses them.
What does the assessment look for?

How long is the Casper test?
It takes about 65 to 85 minutes, including optional breaks. The 4 video scenarios give you 1 minute per answer. The 7 typed scenarios give you 3 minutes 30 seconds for both answers in each. Give yourself time to set up before your start time.
Is the Casper test in Australia the same as overseas Casper?
It runs on the same Acuity Insights platform used overseas. But the RACGP assessment is its own sitting, separate from the Casper tests North American programs use.
