What is the Casper test in Australia?

The Casper test is an online situational judgement test run by Acuity Insights. It shows how you handle ethical and interpersonal situations, and it doesn't test clinical or subject knowledge. Acuity's standard test has 11 scenarios: 4 with video answers and 7 with typed answers. In Australia, the RACGP uses it as the National Entry Assessment for GP training. Universities use it too, for teaching, medicine, veterinary science, psychology and physiotherapy.

How much does the Casper test cost in Australia?

The RACGP National Entry Assessment costs A$190 and is non-refundable, according to the RACGP (checked 13 Sep 2026). University sittings are paid to Acuity Insights, and the fee depends on the program. Where a university lists its fee, our cost table quotes it with the source.

How long is the Casper test?

Acuity's standard Casper test takes about 65 to 85 minutes, including optional breaks. It has 4 video scenarios, with 1 minute to record each answer. Then come 7 typed scenarios, with 3 minutes 30 seconds to answer both questions in each. Some Australian teacher education programs use a shorter version, so check what your program lists.

When are the Casper test dates in Australia?

The RACGP's 2026 sittings have all finished. The last was Wed 26 Aug 2026. The RACGP hadn't published 2027 dates when we last checked, on 13 Sep 2026. Universities set their own sittings. The next ones on our list are Thu 8 Oct 2026 (Deakin and Curtin) and Tue 20 Oct 2026 (Deakin). Our table lists each program's dates with its official source.

Is the Casper test hard?

There's no knowledge to revise and no single right answer. The pressure comes from the time limits and from situations you haven't thought through before. Acuity reports your result as a quartile, from Q1 to Q4, so you're compared with other test takers. What helps is practising under the time limit, then looking at what was weak in each answer.

How do you prepare for the Casper test?

Learn what the test looks for, then practise timed scenarios. After each one, look at what was weak in your answer rather than memorising scripts. For the typed section, we suggest at least 60 words per minute (WPM), and 80 or more gives you time to think. At 60 WPM, that's about 195 words across both answers in a typed scenario. How long do Casper test results take?

Acuity sends your Casper test results to the programs you've chosen about 2 to 3 weeks after your test. Your quartile score is available about 4 to 5 weeks after the test. The RACGP explains how it uses National Entry Assessment results on its own page.

Can you resit the Casper test?

You can only complete each Casper test type once per admissions cycle. Rescheduling is free 31 or more days before your test, and a fee may apply after that. The RACGP sets its own rules for the National Entry Assessment, so check its assessment page.

Is the Casper test in Australia the same as overseas Casper?

It runs on the same Acuity Insights platform, but you book the test type your program names. Australian dates and fees differ from North American ones, and some Australian programs use a shorter version. Acuity Insights, a third-party provider, delivers the assessment online as its Casper Test, and you book and pay through your Acuity Insights account.

What does the Casper test assess?

It looks at personal and professional qualities, such as empathy, ethics, communication, collaboration and self-awareness. There's no single right answer, and it doesn't test clinical knowledge. Raters look at how thoughtfully you handle the people and the problem in front of you.
